Beautiful 1800's High Tea Birthday Party!

I love teas and just love sharing lovely tea parties with you here on the blog, and to celebrate National Tea Month in January we are going to have a week of tea themed posts AND get a chance to kick it off with a priceless look at a beautiful 1800's birthday tea party! Isn't that just so exciting? Indeed! So here we go...

The first thing you need to know is that all the credit goes to Muriel Hedgcock. She created this lovely event for her daughter and here is what she had to say:

"We enjoyed planning and working together as a mother and daughter team preparing for my daughter's 18th Birthday High Tea. To add to the decor we each did a painting. Caitie painted an 1800's style self-portrait for fun, and I did the backdrop of a window scene of an English rose garden. We made place cards and attempted making sugar roses for the first time. It gave us a lovely mother and daughter time of fun & challenge. Our guests all came dressed up for the occasion and brought beautiful poems, songs and musical pieces to share with us. We all joined in the regency dancing my daughter had prepared, which added to a delightful afternoon that will be a most memorable one."

This was my daughter's Birthday address:

This 18th birthday tea party has an 1800s theme, and this is not only for a chance to dress up and do things that are very different to usual. The 1800s was a time that had its problems, but it was also a time in which the differences between ladylike behaviour and unladylike behaviour, propriety and impropriety, politeness and bad manners, and a gentle, quiet spirit and a loud and rebellious attitude, were clearly defined in strong contrasts.

We have in the world today a crisis of femininity, modesty, and propriety. This party was meant to be an opportunity to display these virtues.

1 Pet. 3:3,4 reads, “Do not let your adornment be merely outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel – rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

Prov. 31:30, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”

I hope you all thoroughly enjoy this high tea, and we pray that it will be a great blessing to all of you.

(Absolutely stunning!)

Wow--Muriel, thank you so much for allowing us to to view and share the beauty of this day. All the time, hard work, and effort was well invested in your relationship in growing memories with your precious daughter.

We are sure this is one birthday that she will never forget!

What a wonderful tea party! The last one I held was for the Royal Wedding, I made a Union Jack sponge cake and pretty cupcakes x x

What a sharp contrast to the parties that girls are attending this year.
I love this and the purposeful creation behind it.
Will our values as woman ever return to what they used to be?
I hope so!

Thank you for sharing!

Cherry Tree Lane,

I also love all the time and care that went into this party. Truly a memorable event for all! I hope to remember to add special touches from the heart for my children's birthday celebrations as Muriel did.

Many blessings...

What a wonderful party! I would have loved attending or hosting a party like this as a teenager. Actually, I would still love to! :) The dresses, the tea, the desserts, and of course the emphasis feminine integrity--everything looked just lovely.

Beautiful pictures! We host tea's here in our little corner of the world. They are usually well attended by girls of all ages and their mothers.

There is just something about a tea that makes the "ladylike" in all of us shine!

What a beautiful idea for a birthday party! I really enjoy tea parties, and the etiquette that goes with them is so charming. I just adore the gracious quality of it.

What a lovely party, I think I might do something (on a much smaller scale!) for my young daughters this spring. Just a note to all you tea party planners, if you want to be very accurate remember that the term "high tea" refers to the working man's lunch, simple and not elegant. The word "high" refers to "high noon". The terms "afternoon tea" or "morning tea" are the more elegant ladies' tea parties.

I love your blog. I just wanted to let you know that I have been having trouble moving through your landing page. It has gotten very very slow. I don't know if the issue is your snowflakes or if you have too many posts on the landing page. Maybe it's your pictures. Are you compressing them before you insert them into your articles? If you take the pictures in higher megapixels and you load them without compressing them, it will take longer for them to load when people get to your site. Please don't take me the wrong way. I just thought you might not be aware that there is an issue. If people can't manouver down the page to read the articles, they might not stay on your site and you might lose followers. I don't have this problem with the other blogs I follow. I love reading your posts and I'm so glad to have found a Christian woman who writes for the Lord. Karen kh-jeremiah29.11@sbcglobal.net

Dear kh-jeremiah29.11,

I will look into it--when I come on it downloads pretty fast so I am not seeing a problem on this side, however sometimes it can be a server or blogger glitch. I will ask if anyone else is experiencing the same problem on my FB page.

Many blessings...

Thank you dear ladies, such lovely comments! We had a very blessed time together. One of the younger girls even asked me if we could have a tea party like this once a month because she loved it so much. I laughed! It certainly is tempting and we are already making mini roses and putting them in an airtight container ahead of time. Miss Erin, thank you for pointing out that Afternoon Tea is more refined than High Tea. We will bear that in mind for next time.:-)
