The True Home

Homes are not made up of material things. It is not a fine house, rich furniture, a luxurious table, a fine garden, and a superb carriage that make a home.

Vastly superior to this is the true home.

Our ideal homes should be heart homes, in which virtue lives and love flowers bloom and peace offerings are daily brought to its altars. It is made radiant with every social virtue, and beautiful without by those simple adornments with which nature is every-where so prolific.

The children born in such homes will leave them with regret, and come back to them in after life as pilgrims to a holy shrine.

Oh, beautifully said!

I've often heard the old saying, "home is where the heart is" and thought it was so true. It's a cute little saying until you have to put it into practice. When you have to live it, that is when you really have to concentrate on doing exactly what you put in your post.

I desire to have the family that our children and other children want to "come home" to. A family that shows love, Christ's love.

I often feel childish when I miss my things that have been stuffed away in storage for over a year. Only through Jesus can I crucify my fleshly desires.

I go through a struggle in my head... I shouldn't desire my material things. Maybe I should give them all away since they mean nothing... Well, if I did that, we wouldn't have anything to put in a house when we get back on our feet again.

Oh, so much to think and pray about! Thank you for "listening".

You don't know how much I needed to hear that! We are hoping to sell our home this summer to get into something a little larger, stressing a little when I think about what will happen if it doesn't sell. So this was a good reminder for me- it's not the house itself that really matters. I know my kids would be happier with a small house and a joyful mom, then a big house and a stressed mom.

I'm going through a similar process right now as mom-2-4 mentioned. However, we are not trying to sell our home. We are currently renting and trying to buy our first home. We found a home that we love, but we are still waiting for the investor to make a decision before we can start escrow. We were told it would take 3 weeks, and now it's going into 4 and probably 5 weeks. It's been a very anxious time for my husband and I. We just want to "get moving." We're also fearful that we may not even get the house and then what?

Your post today about the home only reinforces what my husband and I prayed about today - to be content with what we have, knowing that God will provide for us, and that He will give us our blessings (whatever that may be) at the proper time - meaning His time and not ours. As for me as his helpmeet, I need to be focusing on making the home a peaceful and comfortable haven; not a place of stress and anxiety. These are the things that are important. These are easy things to say, but difficult to apply.

By God's grace, I hope that He will reveal in my stubborn heart the real meaning of the home and home life.

What a delightful quote. I haven't visited in a long time. It's wonderful to be back and read some of your recent posts; hope to get to some of the older ones later, too!
