35 Holiday Traditions Your Family Will Love




If you have been wanting to add some new holiday traditions for your family to create memories they will never forget, we have a quick list that you might be interested in!

Maybe you are just starting your family or just wanting to add in some more fun --we hope that you will take the time to make the holidays special.

Our family has done many things on the list here and I hope that with sharing them with you that you will also have a memorable Christmas experience.

Pick one or several--whatever works best for you. The point is too have a meaningful and fun holiday.

I really hope this list is a blessing to you!


Let's begin:


Read the Bible and go through the gospel of Luke together.

Make a Jesse Tree together.

Go through a special Advent calendar together with your child.

Read Jesus-focused Advent books together to remember the real reason for the season.

Light advent candles as the weeks go by.

Hang Christ-centered Christmas ornaments together.

Bake Christmas Cookies together --here is an Almond Joy cookie recipe that is really simple one with just a few ingredients or use nativity themed or Christmas themed cookie cutters and give them as gifts to friends and neighbors.

Do an Elf on the Shelf alternative like Star from Afar (or if you prefer Shepherd on the Search) that teaches about the birth of Christ instead.

Get a nativity toy set for small children to play with.

Do a Christmas book Advent countdown wrapping the books up in Christmas paper and putting them under the tree. Here is a list of good books to check out!

Watch some favorite Christmas movies together.

Go see a Christmas play together.

Volunteer for Operation Christmas Child.

Decorate a Gingerbread House or a gingerbread Nativity scene. 

Build a Christmas village scene together on a table in your home to display.

Put small decorated Christmas trees or nativities in each child's room.

Make snow ice cream.

Make snowman pancakes.

Turn your fridge into a snowman.




Make homemade Christmas ornaments by hand.

Go and see the Christmas lights with cocoa, and music and afterwards pray for your neighborhood.

Go iceskating or sledding and have a snowball fight.

Go see a live nativity.

Plan some random acts of kindness to do unto others from this list.

Bless a single mom with a few of these ideas.

Spread some Christmas cheer by serving others from this inspiring list for the month of December.

Take some time to slow down from the holiday bustle and  play some fun board games together and make some memories by the fire.

Go caroling in the neighborhood or to a nursing home.

Fill their Christmas stockings with a breakfast theme to keep them fed and busy before you wake up on Christmas morning.

Have a snowflake tea party or Christmas doll themed tea party and invite your friends for fellowship.

Watch a video about how Christmas was during The Great Depression and be extra thankful for all that you have.

Bake a cake for Jesus and sing Happy Birthday to Him.

Wear matching Christmas pajamas.

Do a Christmas Eve box and fill it with all the festive fun things.

Go to a Christmas church service and worship the Lord your church family.

I would add go see a live presentation of Handel's Messiah or watch it on YouTube. I discovered I had a cd of the Messiah that I forgot I had.
