That Time I Ate a Baby Dragon at Medieval Times

This past summer we celebrated four birthdays. One of them was mine and so we decided to go to somewhere I hadn't been before--Medieval Times!

If you haven't been there before you will definitely want to know that this is a great place for a family visit. My older kids have been there a few times but I had not had a chance to go yet so I was happy that I was able to finally visit.

Here is a quick YouTube video for a taste of the experience, make sure to turn unmute it.

When we arrived we noticed that the building is shaped like a real castle. The inside has huge hanging chandeliers from that era and everyone was in costume. They quickly show you were to go, give you a crown to wear, and send you on your way to find your seat. You get an opportunity to take a picture with your party posing with some swords.

Then you walk into the main auditorium and find your assigned seat. They are arranged by color so that you can cheer for your knight who has the same color.

Your visit includes a meal that you get to eat by hand with no utensils on pewter plates.

Here was the menu and what the servers called it:

Baby Dragon - (which was really half a chicken)
Dragon tail soup- (tomato bisque)
Dragon Egg - (half a potato cut lengthwise)
corn on the cob
garlic bread

You can let them know if you have any allergies or need a gluten free plate.

A few of the highlights were:

There was a Queen and King who oversaw the tournament.

There were 6 knights riding horses and jousting.

They had a live flight of a royal falcon.

My boys seriously loved the sword fighting with real swords.

This would be especially great to visit if you are homeschooling and do a unit study on the era! They were actually at a recent homeschool conference we attended and gave everyone a special free pass  to get in.

Here are a few of our favorite books that are knight-themed that we've read in our homeschool are The Kingdom Series by Chuck Black that focus on character or have biblical principles if you'd like some reading material on the topic:

The White Knights:

and The Usborne Official Knight's Handbook:

Knights in Training: Ten Principles for Raising Honorable, Courageous, and Compassionate Boys (my favorite, it's actually a book on parenting)

If you haven't had a chance to read any of them, you need to check them out!

After the event you are able to take pictures with the authentic looking knights and even the queen out in the hall. My sons took a ton of pictures with them. You can also buy toy swords, shields, princess crowns, flags, and other souvenirs to take home with you.

WISE WOMAN HOT TIP

There are several locations around the U.S.  (we visited the Chicago location) and right now you can get a discount using and save $24 a person with their Back-to-School promo code: SUMMER19 valid through 12/31/19, tickets must be purchased by 9/2/19. They also have special pricing and packaging for students and teachers and welcome homeschoolers. Please not that this is not a sponsored post, we just want to help you save because we love you all! Also know that if you are having a birthday or anniversary, they will read your name out loud in the auditorium if you'd like, just be sure you inquire about it.

At the end of the day we were definitely entertained and had a good time.  I highly recommend visiting them as a fun experience for your family.

I hope you enjoyed our pictures!

I have never been to Medieval Times. I wasn't aware there were so many locations. When we lived in CA there was one in Buena Park. I saw an ad for Medieval Times here in AZ and one just opened in SScottsdale. I think our family should go there sometime.
