Are You Struggling with Fear?

"I never really struggled with fear but now I do. It comes in all shapes and forms. Sometimes I am fearful about finances, or about my kids, or my health, or my marriage. Sometimes I even catch myself getting fearful and anxious about things that haven't even happened yet."

If this is you, you are not alone.

Most of us struggle with some type of fear from time to time.

But the important thing to remember is to not let it control your life.

Whatever type of fear your are struggling with today, I want you to know this:

"For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." 2 Timothy 1:7

Sometimes struggling with fear can behindering or even paralyzing so that is why I would like to share a few tips to help you through it:

1. Be God-centered. Sometimes when the focus is on ourselves or our problem it is easy to get carried away thinking fearful thoughts. We need to keep our focus on God.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. -Psalm 34:4

Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. -Psalm 73:25

2. Don't allow it to control you, keep God's truth in front of you. If we are struggling with fear we need to take captive our fearful thoughts and replace it with God's Word which is truth.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these tings. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me--practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Phillippians 4:8-9

Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His steadfast love." Psalm 33: 18

3. Know that God is always with you. If He is always with us, we can find peace and comfort in knowing we are not alone.

For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” Isaiah 41:13

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

4. We don't need to fear the future. The future is in his hands and we can trust Him!

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.

6In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.  `Proverbs 3:5-6

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

A Prayer:

Dear Lord, please help me to keep my focus on You and not on my fear. I know that I can trust you with all things--my life, my health. my finances, my family, and every other area of my life. I will not let Satan come in to steal my joy and peace by stirring up fear in my life. When I am afraid I will trust in you. Thank you so much for all that you have done and continue to do in my life. I know that you will even use my fear to draw me closer to you and for that I am thankful. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
