How to Pray for Your Adult Children

As a mother of 9 children I do not take praying lightly.

I know how important it is to keep praying for your children--no matter how old they are. Prayer is so important when they are young and even when they are well into their adult years.

I don't pray perfectly and sometimes I don't remember to always pray the things I wanted to pray. So I though I would write a post where I can keep the main points of prayer in one place and hopefully they will bless you as well so you can pray for your adult children, if you have them.

1. Pray for them to have a heart for God, His Word, and His ways.

2. That they would grow in wisdom and discernment.

3. That they would understand God's purpose for their lives.

4. That God would bless their work and have financial stability.

5. That they would resist evil and destructive behavior.

6. That they would avoid sexual pollution and temptation.

7. That they would have good health.

8. That they would have God's healing.

9. That they would have a successful marriage.

10. That they would raise godly children.

11. That God would protect them.

Here is a lovely poem about a mother who prayed:

Some have had kings in their lineage,
Some to whom honor was paid.
Not blest of my ancestors but,
I have a mother who prays.

I have a mother who prays for me
And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
Oh what a difference it makes for me
I have a mother who prays.

Some have worldly success
And trust in riches they've made
This is my surest asset,
I have a mother who prays.

My mother's prayers cannot save me,
Only mine can avail;
But mother introduced me to Someone
Someone who never could fail.

Oh yes, I have a mother who prays for me
And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
Oh what a difference it makes for me
I have a mother who prays.

I enjoyed reading Power of Praying for Your Adult Children. One specific part of the book that left an impression on me was, "We must not only politely ask God for an outpouring of His Spirit on our adult children, we must get on our knees and cry out for it from the depths of our being."
