How to Deal with Grief

In case you have been wondering where I have been, I am still here. My father passed away a few weeks ago so I am still dealing with his loss.

Since it happened very recently and emotions are still very raw so I don't think that I can actually share a post about him right now. But I can definitely share something to help with grief.

Even though my heart feels like the bottom dropped out of it I know that this feeling is not going to be here forever. That eventually the Lord will heal this pain and numbness that I am feeling and it is so comforting to know that.

Here are some thoughts to help someone who is grieving:

WE ARE NOT ALONE AND CAN LOOK TO GOD

It is very easy to feel alone when a love one dies or feel prone to depression but the good news and truth is that we are not alone. God is right by our side.

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you."

Isaiah 43:2

GOD IS OUR REFUGE

I have always been comforted by the fact that I can run to God and seek refuge under His wings. I am safe there and He knows my pain.

In you, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me! Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me! For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name's sake you lead me and guide me.

 Psalm 31:1-3

GOD COMFORTS US

And through the pain He comforts me though His word. I can look to it and trust Him with why my dad died and His purpose for it.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

GOD GIVES US STRENGTH

Even though I feel weak at this time, I know that the Lord is giving me strength to carry on. My life doesn't end here even though my father is gone. He has blessed me with much.

My soul weeps because of grief; strengthen me according to your word.

Psalm 119: 28

HE IS MY HEAVENLY FATHER

Even though my father is gone, I still have a heavenly father in heaven who will never leave me or forsake me. I can always turn to Him and He will always be there for me.

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows is God in His holy dwelling.

Psalm 68:5

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Deuteronomony 31:8

Have you lost a loved one?

How have you dealt with the grief?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm a widow of 5 years with kids still at home and have walked through grief as well. God WILL carry you tenderly through but the pain is deep and physical. I've written much on grief and offer it to you if it's comforting. Many blessings to you.

June,

I am sorry for your loss. I too have known loss of another kind. I don't have any other suggestions you don't know about. Grieving takes time but do take the time to grieve. Have candid discussions with God often and wait on Him to take the sting away. I will pay for you.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, June. I lost my precious Daddy in 2000 and my dear Mom in 2012, so I can surely understand every facet of your pain. Losing a parent is truly one of life's greatest sorrows. God bless you and hold you close as you grieve.

God is good. May he comfort you in this time of grief. May the roots of this great tree which has fallen produce growth and fruits of righteousness leading to salvation. May God bless your heart and life even through his death as in his life.

I am so very sorry for your loss. My father died unexpectedly earlier this year. It is difficult, however, all of these verses and reminders are wonderful to hold onto. Love and prayers are your way.
