This was shocking and infuriating! The more I see about public schools, the happier I am that my husband and I decided to homeschool our children! Truly Martin Luther had it right when he said, and I paraphrase, "I fear that any institution (school) which does not keep the scriptures of paramount importance, shall become the gateways to Hell."

Martin Luther was dead right and would probably roll over in his grave at the state of public schools today--however, we need to keep in mind that we need to pray for truth to be shown and for the people who are there.

I believe it is wrong, but would believe that way no matter what type of house of worship it was. Our schools are there to teach the three R's, and religion is not one of them. That is a parent's job, that is the church's job. Religion dones not belong in the schools for several reasons. People worship too many different ways and things can get too tangled up.

Mrs. June Fuentes,

I hope you are well. I have been a reader of your blog for quite some time and have enjoyed many of your posts even though we do not share the same beliefs. I'm not sure why this video that you posted was outraging to you, and was curious. Is it because it is a mosque that they were taken to? Would it have bothered you if it had been a Jewish temple or a Buddhist temple? Or is it because you believe that the schools should truly keep religion out of their system?

I believe the parents have the right to say no to such a thing. I think that if the parents agreed to this, then it is okay.

A lot of the stuff that is stated in that video seems to be more-so an personal attack on the religion of Islam and Muslims then an attempt to draw the line between the bringing together of faith into the public school system.

What I clearly saw in the video was an attempt to educate the students on the beliefs that Muslims have from their own perspective, not an attempt to brainwash them with anything. In reality, the children of many faiths are being exposed to a lot of other faiths in their every day life, while walking home from school, on the news, or just through their encounters with other people.

I feel that what this video aimed to do was bring more intolerance and lack of understanding of a different faith. Once more, if the issue is just with bringing religion into the public school system, then I completely understand. Islam is not a terroristic religion. I have many Muslim friends and have studied Islam along with my studies of Judaism and Christianity and Catholicism. Muslims have a monotheistic faith, where they believe in one perfect God. Human beings aren't perfect. We have crazy people everywhere and we should not confuse the people with the faith.

Again, I enjoy your blog very much and that is why I wondered.

Sincerely,

- Elizabeth

I agree with Elizabeth's comments. I also wanted to bring up a point: if there are visitors in your church, does the pastor not pray in front of them? Doesn't he invite the entire congregation, including the visitors, to join in the singing, discussions and, yes, even the praying? I don't think the mosque did anything out of the ordinary, nor was it offensif to include their guests (who came of their own accord) in what is important to them...just as we would do if they were to visit our church.

The problem lies with the parents. If they were not okay with their kids participating in a muslim service, then they should have kept them home that day. Did they really expect them to study architecture? I don't buy that for a second.
