Titus 2 Time: What Does the Bible Say About Loving One Another?

We have started doing some new Bible studies here so that we can look closely at the Word and think about it through the week. I am going to share some that I have done at home with the kids that I already have on hand. They will be simple, one post, and to the point! If we want to be wise women who fear the Lord we have to know His Word and study it.

Today I want to look into some Bible verses about love. The word love is mentioned 320 times in the Bible. It the word that the Lord placed on my heart this year to grow in and work on in my life. One that I want to teach my children too.  There are four different types of love mentioned in the Bible and the one that is my favorite is the "agape" love with is the Greek word for the  kind of love God has for us to send us His Son to be the ultimate sacrifice for us.

Whenever I see the love of God towards another person it stands out. The world is full of people who know how easy it is to be mean but love shines like a light in the darkness.

Let us examine what God says about it:

John 13:34

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

1 John 4:19

We love because He first loved us.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part,  but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.  When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.  For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

John 15:9

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.

1 John 4:7

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 Peter 4:8

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Leviticus 19:18

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

John 13:34-35

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

1 Peter 1:22

Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart...

John 13:35

By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

1 Corinthians 16:14

Let all that you do be done in love.

1 John 4:11

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 Corinthians 13:13

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

1 John 3:18

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Romans 5:5

And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

John 15:9-17

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. ...

John 14:15

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, You are mighty and holy and I thank You for all that you have done and going to do in my life. Thank You for showing love to me first by sending your Son here to die for the forgiveness of my sins so that I could have eternal life in heaven. Please forgive me for not being loving when I should be.  Please help me to show more love, grace, kindness, mercy, and generosity so that people can see You more clearly in this dark world. Help me to love people and see people with your eyes and to obey You as you guide me.  I pray this in Jesus' name--Amen.

Thank you so much for all the beautiful verses about love. I have also found it so amazing that God could love us with that type of love, even when we were sinners. My post this week is what to do when homemaking is painful. I would love for you to check it out http://keepingthetiethatbinds.com/2019/09/03/what-to-do-when-being-a-homemaker-is-painful/
