Titus 2 Time: What Does the Bible Say about Kindness?

I wanted to start doing some new Bible studies here so that we can look closely at the Word and think about it through the week. I am going to share some that I have done at home with the kids that I already have on hand. They will be simple, one post, and to the point! If we want to be wise women who fear the Lord we have to know His Word and study it.

Today I want to look into some Bible verses about kindness. Kindness is a character trait that goes hand-in-hand with love and we know that we need to love our neighbors as ourselves. It is one that I am always wanting to grow in and work on in my life. One that I want to teach my children too.

Whenever I see kindness it stands out. The world is full of people who know how easy it is to be mean but kindness shines like a light in the darkness.

Let us examine what God says about it:

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Luke 6:35

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

Proverbs 11:17

A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.

Colossians 3:12

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,  bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Proverbs 31:26

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Proverbs 19:17

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

1 John 3:18

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Galatians 6:10

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

1 Peter 3:9

Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.

Galatians 5:22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Philippians 2:1-30

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus...

Acts 20:35

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Feel free to print these out to study them through the week!

PRAYER

Dear Lord, thank You for all that you have done and going to do in my life. Thank You for showing kindness to me first by loving me and sending your Son here to die for the forgiveness of my sins so that I could have eternal life in heaven. Please forgive me for not being kind when I should be. Help me to be kinder and show love grace, mercy .and generosity so that people can see You more clearly in this dark world. Help me to love people through acts of kindness and to obey You as you guide me.
I pray this in Jesus' name--Amen.
