Finding Rest: My Visit to the Bed & Breakfast

I recently shared with you about how I am taking the time to purposefully rest and how my husband was on vacation recently. We went to visit a bed and breakfast to steal some time away.

"We all know we need rest from work, but we don't realize we have to work hard just to rest.

We have to plan for breaks.

We have to schedule time to be unscheduled.

That's the way life is for most of us.

Scattered, frantic, boundary-less busyness comes naturally.

The rhythms of work and rest require planning."

We truly looked forward to some time alone to rest and refresh our souls.

"Busyness kills more Christians than bullets. How many sermons are stripped of their power by lavish dinner preparations and professional football? How many times of privates and family worship have been crowded out by soccer and school projects? We need to guard our hearts. The seed of God's Word won't grow to fruitfulness without pruning for rest, quiet, and calm."

We sat in there in total quietness and enjoyed some complimentary cheesecake.

(it was still decorated for Valentines day)

(jars overflowing with sweet candy)

(a cute cabinet in the foyer)

(a tiny little gift shop with oodles of pretty things)

(our room with the fire place)

"Busyness can be a drug. It makes us feel important and needed.

Fruitfulness is another matter.

It is a miracle of God's grace through His Word, imparted to a heart that stays quiet and low before Him, set upon doing His will only. "

(our table and breakfast awaited us in the morning)

(the rose and crystal chandelier in the dining room)

(the sun spilling onto our table)

(the library)

(it had a owl themed fire place that was pretty unique)

( a close up)

Even though this picture did not come out as clear as I had hoped, I was reading Breaking Busy and enjoying the sound of the crackling fire. A mom of 9 doesn't always get to hear what silence sounds like, and I was truly enjoying the moment!

FIVE BIBLE VERSES ON REST to meditate on:

And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”  Exodus 33:14

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”  -Matthew 11:28-30

It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.  Psalm 127:2

“Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest."  -Exodus 34:21

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  -Matthew 11:29

I hope you enjoyed our pictures!

This was wonderful. I really enjoyed the pictures and am so glad you both got away. For some reason my URLACHER doesn't work here. https:// sarahsatticoftreasures.com

What a treat. I enjoyed the quotes and verses you shared and the pictures as well. I agree so much. I learned the hard way a few years ago to practice rest, and slowing.
