Guarding the Quiet Pleasures of Homemaking

There is something to be said about all the hustle and bustle of today. It certainly can steal the richest qualities and moments of a persons life. If we do not take care to stop and look around--life will certainly pass us by.

I love when I get a chance to sit on my comfortable big couch and enjoy my front room. It is a pleasure to pull up a quilt that needs mending and begin working on it slowly. There is something about being able to just stop time and relish and savor the present golden moment.  Sometimes I like to think I am an old grandmother mending away in her favorite rocking chair as I thread my needle and savor the rhythm of basting stitches. There is just something so therapeutic about sewing that I noticed ever since I learned how to sew. Something so enjoyable and pleasurable.

It is funny how life can steal away even the most precious moments, we need to be so careful not to allow that to happen. Simplicity reigns when we guard the quiet pleasures in life, when we can guard some of the quiet times of homemaking and use that time to get alone with God.

If we take notice...it can truly recharge a weary soul.

So true! I really treasure the quiet moments at the end of the day when I'm knitting and spending time in prayer.

Very true, Mrs. Fuentes. I'll add sometimes a wife and mother can take on responsibilities (because she was ruled by fear and guilt) and thinks she can manage while the spouse and little ones God put in her charge get stuck with a weary mama because she didn't prioritize scripture or rightly divide them and adding more weight to her cross (e.g. trying to care for an elderly relative at home who has little regard for others etc.)

That was a lovely post and I too think it is important to just enjoy the simple moments of life.
I enjoy quiet moments.

Agree! Making bread (especially kneading by hand) is another time I like to slow down and just savor the moment.

The hustle and bustle can truly steal away from us. I so agree with this post, and also that sewing is therapeutic. I have had such a desire lately to *create*. Now to just make the time for it!

Beautiful post! I actually enjoy sitting in the quiet of our living room sorting the socks in our sock basket. It gives me such peace and is a joy to pray for each of my family members as I fold their socks.

Slowing down is so important...I love how you put to "savor our homemaking". Thank you for this!

Blessings!

Oh, I love this post. There's such joy in homemaking...however, I must confess, I'm pretty much allergic to needle and thread. I'm afraid sewing gives me hives - very tedious, although I love sort of stopping the clock and making time in my day to enjoy my home; to sit in my favorite spot on the couch with my coffee and just think. God bless you and your beautiful blog :)

I'm a new follower and I absolutely love it here! So peaceful.

I find your blog so inspirational! I would love it if you could stop by my very first blog hop debuting today and share one of your heartfelt posts. I just know that others would find your blog just as precious as I do.

God Bless and have a wonderful day!

Thank you so much for this gentle reminder. I remember praying at the clothesline when I had two in cloth diapers. As a busy mommy of babies and toddlers, those everyday homemaking chores became a rendezvous with my loving Savior. Now that our children are all grown, I find myself writing/blogging on the computer more and with my Savior less. Yet, He is drawing me away again little by little, even using this post. Thank you so much. :)
