That distract us, beckon us and tell us what to do.
They lay burdens on us unnecessarily and cause us to feel guilty.
Telling us that we are not good enough mothers, wives, homemakers, or teachers to our children.
Whispering lies to us as we faithfully try our best day after day.
Christian women need not concern themselves with such bequiling distractions.
But we only need to listen to one quiet voice.
Have you drowned out the other voices today?
And listened for His voice?

"Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord,
but the Lord was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake,
but the Lord was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake came a fire,
but the Lord was not in the fire.
And after the fire came a gentle whisper."

Beautiful post!
June,
OH how I have been thinking about voices of late. Mostly the ones crying "MOMMY!!!" And how when they first learn to call your name it is such a sweet sound but somewhere along the way it can turn into a loud-demanding-whiny call instead of one of love. I wondered..how do we call our heavenly father...with a sweet sound??? or a demanding, whiny one. Either way-I am so thankful he hears my calls and try to be patient and gentle my response to the 7 voices calling "MOMMY!"
Blessings to you,
Shannon
Wow I need this reminder, to listen to the quiet voice!

Very nice post to remind us not to listen to the voices of the world but instead to tune ourselves to the word of God.
Even our duties as mothers and wives can take us away from God if we allow them to.
Thank you for this post. I needed the reminder and the encouragement. Blessings!
Just today I was thinking how I'd be a much better mommy if I stopped with the mommy guilt! That for me is a daily struggle, and while I want to be aware of areas I can be a better mother, I think the mommy guilt can be an unnecessary distraction.
Lots of times God answers my prayers through your posts! and once again! this one is right on point!! So was Mark Driscolls fb short video clip post this morning as well...
:)
Thank you for this reminder. I have to confess, when I saw the subject of your post I immediately thought, "Great, just another admonition of how I don't often have a quiet voice." I am really struggling with this lately and the enemy is enjoying taunting me with this. So when I read your post and saw that it is His gentle voice that I need, I was blessed!!!!
There certainly are lots of voices in the world...
This is my first visit to your lovely blog! I have been keeping it open for the beautiful music, and your words strike their mark for me today. He has been teaching me about the value of quiet and stillness, and the passage about the quiet voice is one of my favorites.
Such a timely message for me (yet again!) Thank you, Ms. June! Be blessed always!
Good thoughts. I do pray I am always listing to His voice!
Blessing, Sharon

Being raised in a "yelling" home I guess I just got used to hearing loudness. Am trying to tune out the loudness in life and listen for the soft whisper voice of the Lord.
Thank you for reminding me about this. Its easier to hear if you read his Word and listen for the content because you get used to hearing that when you read it.
Thank you again for sharing.
Blessings, a frequent reader.
