The King That Dwells Within

Good homemaking is an admirable virtue but often times it can be overdone.

If we are creating and building up a home it should not just be a mere showplace to impress others.

A good husband appreciates homemaking efforts made for his sake

but wouldn't want it to take priority
 over him-- or his children--
or the things he finds more important.

Woman would be wise to heed these simple words of advice:

The castle is not more important

than the king that dwells within.

Very true, June! I sometimes get discouraged when I can't keep the house looking the way I want to for my king due to health issues, but my husband would rather have a cheerful wife that has done a few things consistently every day then one who is miserable and in a lot of pain because I have pushed myself.

Balance is definitely key, especially with chronic health problems.

I want to thank you so much for the wisdom you have imparted to me tonight in regards to being a wise and joyous keeper of the home.
(I am recently married and young yet, and thus without little blessings!) so I am taking this time to learn the skills I was never taught as a child. I most especially enjoy the artwork with which you chose to decorate your site, and I would appreciate it in the utmost if you would kindly list the titles of the artwork and the gifted artists who produced them. I would very much like to locate such lovely works with which to decorate my home as well as give those who created the work the credit they so richly deserve.

Indeed, it is difficult to keep our home as we feel we want it, but I find strength in thinking that when my husband comes home from a difficult day, he does not think about the dishwasher that needs filling, nor the fingerprints on the glass door, but rather that the sights and sounds that comfort him--as you so wisely said, Michelle: a cheerful wife, a glass of cool, sweet tea, and the smell of something resembling supper go a long way when he's due at the door any minute!
Michelle, I am praying for your health and happiness, may you find strength each moment in the Lord.

I think this is a very timely reminder. With all the "buzz" lately on homemaking, though very important, it's even more important to remember that we're Making Our Homes for Someone (our Husbands...and children), not so we can share it with the Blogging World, or company that's coming over later in the week.

P.S. Thank you so much for sharing Patriot with us. We're a Military/American History loving family, and our Boys will absolutely LOVE it!

This is so true, my king died on Easter Sunday this year, at home and my castle has never been the same since. Wishing that the 'housework' hadn't taken so much of my time. But I have 3 little princesses to raise and this helps me remember that they are little only once.

Dear Jayme,

Thank you so much for visiting. I am so sorry to hear about your loss--but I am grateful you shared that because it is a great reminder to us all that our days here on earth are fleeting and to keep the eternal in perspective.

May the Lord always be with you and guide you as you raise your beautiful three daughters.

Many blessings...
