The God With the Glass Face-Television

Hope this post finds you joyfully and contentedly enjoying your
sacred homes! Speaking of sacred and knowing Christ dwells there,
let's take a good look at the powerful influence of our televisions,
shall we?

Advertisement-millions are spent on a 30 second commercial to
influence you to buy a product aiming directly at our desire for
materialism and enforcing greed. Ads can plant seeds of discontent in our childrens lives and our lives as well. Ever have a child ask for
that brand new sparkly doll she sees while she has several that
remain in her toy box untouched? What about when we see gorgeous homes
and big shiny cars-do ours pale in comparison? Lets not
underestimate the influence ads have on us emotionally. Sex also
sells in advertisement. Sometimes all you see is an attractive,
scantily clad woman and surprise, at the end you find out she is
selling soap, or beer or car wax. What message does this send to our
children?

Sexuality-since I'm on the topic, lets go the full gamut. Would you
allow several women to walk through your sacred home in Victoria
Secret lingerie in front of dh or the precious children? No? Is the
glory of womanhood something to be devalued, demeaned and paraded on
the streets as cheap? As we train our sons to honor and respect women
we must not forget that as the television is on, it teaches. If we
are teaching our daughters modesty, purity and morality we must place
before them godly role models. We are contradicting ourselves and
confusing others when we do not. And as for our dh's, do you want
another woman enticing him? This is a visual attack upon him and his
senses. We know God's word about lusting and fleeing, so let's act
upon that!

Witchcraft-this is obvious, it is quite rampant and comes in all
forms. We know witchcraft is DETESTABLE to God and we are to avoid
it. But what about when it comes in light of a cartoon? It can be
nothing more but manure with whip cream and cherry to top it off. It
is a door to the occult, an open door for Satan to entice your
children. Lock that door and throw away the key! It is not worth
having your children hearts lead down that dark, evil road. Seeds are
planted that can materialize as they become older. Be watchful, dear
moms, Satan likes to put a teaspoon of poison in a gallon of good.

Negative Behavior-is there content such as quarreling between
siblings? A child/character that is obnoxious or talks back? "Bad
company corrupts good character" What company are your children
spending time with? If you are teaching your daughter to save herself
as a treasure for her future husband, are you tempting her with
movies of youngsters dating, kissing and the like? What about
teaching to solve problems w/out God or going to him in prayer? Many
sit-coms illustrate easy resolve from conflict without considering
God. Many shows depict fathers as imbeciles, mothers as leaders and
children as know-it-alls. This is not honoring the Christian home. It
quells pride in children thinking they know better than the parents
placed by God to raise them.

THE MEASURING STICK---Phillipians 4:8 "Finally brothers, what is
true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy-think about such things." This should also go for our
choice of entertainment.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." We must guard our hearts and minds at all times and be vigilant in watching over our household (Prov. 31:27).

Lets be diligent, Christian moms in watching over what God has entrusted with us and set before our families a godly path!

A resounding AMEN to you good people! My husband and I got rid of the tv over a 1 1/2 years ago,and of course, we don't miss it.It is amazing how ones' tolerance level for tv,goes way down after having been weaned.When you happen to watch some tv after being away,the inappropriate content,the out and out malicious gossip,the "mature adults"argueing like idiots and the constant bad news, will really astound you to think that so many eduacated and uneduacated alike actually pay to see it.Anyway, interested folks out there should try to go on a tv
"fast" for a few days at a time,and really evaluate,do I truly need this box of noise in my home?You will find that the answer will be NO!

I have to say- this also goes for the computer. There is a host of things that aren't allowed at home that can come through in video games and the internet. We have been less than cautious in the past about our choices for "entertainment" with the children and also for ourselves. There's things we wouldn't let the children see that I think we also should refrain from seeing. I suppose the question is: is it pure? good? of good report? etc...?

Great post. We are celebrating 20 years TV free. We are morons where Hollywood is concerned, but we don't want to get caught up in honoring men and women who are anti-God and anti-godliness. Psalm 15:4, "...In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD."

First I want to say your site feeds me with godly truth on much needed subjects. Not just your opinions but, scripturally sound. Thank-you!

I had a question on the subject of t.v. in the home.....What are we as womenen/wives to do if hubby who is a "Christian" will not open his eyes to the danger and damage being done by the t.v. My husband has no issues with what our children watch as long as it is pg, pg13 he has even allowed some R ratedfor our youngest 12, 13 yrs old: / I justdon't know what to do. Other than pray but with each day my children are being fedsuch horribleness. And by horribleness I mean even the Disney channel is teaching my children poorly. We homeschool to raise our children with a spiritual strength that I feel is being chopped apart with this Glass Face in our home...
