Helpful Books on How to Be a Good Christian Grandparent

Are you a grandparent?

NEWSFLASH---We just became grandparents this past year to one and another on the way!

Of course you can learn how to be a godly grandparent and a blessing to your grandchildren from reading through the Bible. That is always the FIRST book I will always recommend!

I also recently had started reading two books of interest that I am enjoying so far that I wanted to share.

They are:

The Silver Lining: A Practical Guide for Christian Grandmothers by Nancy Wilson:

The description:

At last, a practical, Christian guide for grandmothers -- and for younger women preparing for that stage of life! Since our culture is in love with immaturity, advice written for "older" women can tend to focus on changes: empty nests, new priorities, grown children getting married, etc. But the Bible tells us to focus on the things that don't change: In all seasons of life, God has good works prepared in advance for us to walk in. And whether you're a young woman, married, unmarried, widowed, middle-aged, or a great-grandma, you never quit exercising that faith in Christ. Grandkids and getting older, dinners and hospitality, mentorship and being an "in-law" all come with their own stretches of bumpy road, but faith and joy (and a little of Nancy Wilson's practical advice) go a long way. Women travelling through this season should be thinking in terms of family legacy -- and in terms of eternity -- as they seek godly wisdom, great joy, and a silver-haired crown of glory.

And The Power of a Praying Grandparent by Stormie Omartian

The description:

The Prayers of a Grandparent Are Precious to God

Being a grandparent is one of God's greatest gifts. And loving your grandchildren is a privilege. The best way to love your grandchildren is to pray for them.
In
The Power of a Praying® Grandparent, bestselling author and speaker Stormie Omartian offers powerful suggestions to help you do just that as you

  • pray for your grandchildren to be healthy, protected, smart, kind, wise, godly, and obedient so that they do not stray into enemy territory
  • pray for yourself to be a powerful praying Grandma or Grandpa who understands what your grandchildren are facing in this world today and how you can best cover them spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically
  • pray for your grandchildren's parents to be led and enabled by God so they can be the wisest, most patient, and loving parents for their children

Being a praying grandparent is one of the best gifts you can give your grandchildren.

Pray, and ask the Lord to guide you, too. As someone from an unsaved parentage, I have found throughout my grandparenting that the best guidance is prayer being #1, search the Bible for inspiration, specifically Proverbs 14:1, and get biblical resources such as from Christianbook.com on this matter(of which there are many to purchase or download from the web).
