Have you ever tried Mexican buñuelos?
There are actually a few different ways to make them.
One of the easiest ways is frying a flour tortilla and sprinkling it with cinnamon and sugar.
But I had always wanted to make it with a real authentic Mexican rosette mold!
So we bought one like this:
There are several cute mold designs that you can choose from - they even have stars, Christmas trees, butterflies, hearts, snowflakes, and more of all sizes small to large.
And here were some of our results:
We found the best tips to be at this YouTube video below, she is very clear and takes time to explain everything! We watched several videos and she was the best by far.
Here is the recipe:
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 tbsp sugar 2 large eggs room temp 1/4 cup milk 2 tbsp melted butter 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup milk
DIRECTIONS:
1. Add all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix.
2. Then add in wet ingredients and mix that too. Slowly add in milk while mixing to get rid of lumps.
3. Heat oil (we used avocado) in a pan for 3 mins. on high and afterwards put it on medium high and put your mold face down into the oil to heat it up for 4 mins. This is important so the batter doesn't stick!
4. Shake off the oil on the mold and light dip into the batter without going over the rim.
5. Then dip into oil and move it up and down until you see the buñuelo releases into the oil.
6. Fry until golden, there is not need to flip it. When it is golden take it out with tongs and place on plate with a paper towel.
7. Keep mold warm in oil and repeat process.
8. Sprinkle tops with cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar.
Afterwards, be sure drink with some hot Abuelita Mexican Hot Chocolate with your warm buñuelos!
We hope you enjoyed this recipe!
