Titus 2 Time: What Does the Bible Say About Prayer?

“Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul,
a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.”
~John Bunyan

I wanted to start doing some more Bible studies here so that we can look closely at the Word and think about it through the week. I am going to share some that I have done at home with the kids that I already have on hand. They will be simple, one post, and to the point! If we want to be wise women who fear the Lord we have to know His Word and study it.

Today I want to look into some Bible verses about prayer. It is so important to learn what God says about prayer so that we can put it into practice. It is wise to read these verses and apply them to your life and then also help your children to learn them too.

Remember, don't ever feel that you are inferior when you pray. God loves you and wants to hear from you. We fight much of our battles on the front lines with prayers. Remember not to please man but please God in all that you do!

Here are a few Bible verses:

John 15:7

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray without ceasing...

Matthew 6:6

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Romans 8:26

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Luke 18:1

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.

Matthew 21:22

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Exodus 14:14

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

1 Corinthians 14:15

What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.

Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Ephesians 6:18

Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

Matthew 6:7

“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Mark 9:29

And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”

1 Timothy 2:8

I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling...

1 Timothy 2:1-2

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

Colossians 4:2

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

ACTION STEPS

How can you carve out more prayer time into your day?

What is keeping you from praying more?

Take time to read the Bible to grow closer to the Lord and know His heart.

Teach your children to pray and pray with them often.

PRAYER

Dear God, You are mighty and holy and I thank You for all that You have done in my life. Please show me how to grow strong in my prayer life. Please forgive me if I have neglected this in the past and not viewed it as important.  Help me to obey your Word and pray with fervor and a humble heart. Direct me on the paths that you have for me and help and my children me not to go astray in my flesh or follow after worldliness. Thank you for all that you have shown me about being prayerful and please give me the strength to apply what I have learned. I pray this in Jesus' name--Amen.
