Summer Reading: 5 Encouraging Books for Pastor's Wives

Are you a pastor's wife or is your husband about to go into ministry?

If so, you will be encouraged by our post today!

Today we are sharing some books that we know will be an inspiration to you. I know that sometimes in your role you might feel all alone and need someone who understands your unique position and role. Who better than someone who has been there?

My husband did some church planting in the past years and so I know what life can be like doing ministry with your husband --so that is why we are sharing today's list. I hope it blesses you!

Here are 5 BOOKS FOR PASTOR'S WIVES:

1. THE PASTOR'S WIFE by Gloria Furman

In this uplifting and often humorous book, Gloria Furman offers pastors’ wives a breath of fresh air, reminding readers that Christ stands ready to help regardless of the circumstance—whether it’s late-night counseling sessions, unrealistic expectations about how they spend their time, or complaints about their husbands’ preaching.
Filled with life-giving truth from God's Word, this book will help pastors’ wives joyfully treasure their Savior, love their husbands, and serve their churches.

2. TRUE COMPANION by Nancy Wilson

Being a pastor's wife isn't the least bit about wearing fancy hats and attending church potlucks. In fact, you can see Nancy Wilson's thirty years of experience most clearly in how she reacts to the difficult stuff -- the stuff that can make you (especially if you're married to a pastor) feel inadequate and under-qualified.
True Companion offers friendly, practical, and above all Christ-centered wisdom on how to help your husband in his vocation, how to deal with the "congregation at home" (kids), how much (or how little) a pastor's wife needs to be involved in the church, what sins tend to spring up in a pastor's home, how to deal with adversity from enemies (or from friends), and a host of other issues.

3. PARTNERS IN MINISTRY by Christine Hoover

The ebook is divided into six parts, each part packed with essays that both speak to the heart and offer practical help for ministry:

Lessons Learned in Ministry
The Ministry Wife's Role
Helps for the Ministry Wife
When You're Hurting, Tired, or Discouraged
Friendship and Ministry
Specifically for Sundays

4. ONE WITH A SHEPHERD by Mary Somerville

One with a Shepherd is a wealth of God's wisdom and grace for the wife of a man in ministry. It is biblical, practical and personal. Whether one has been a pastor's wife for some time, or is just starting out, this book will serve as a faithful friend in equipping and encouraging the minister's wife in her quest to exalt Christ and have joy in the journey.

5. THE CHURCH PLANTING WIFE by Christine Hoover

"Nothing in my life goes untouched by my husband’s calling."
Christine Hoover’s words in the first chapter describe so well the life of a church planter’s wife, which is enormously difficult yet extraordinarily rewarding. To be married to a church planter is a calling of its own with a richness of its own.
In The Church Planting Wife, Hoover explores and encourages the hearts of her readers while teaching what it means to have heart prepared for this unique ministry. She knows the challenges: A church planter's wife must develop a job description, be a wise helper to her husband, develop friendships within the church and community, deal with stress and discouragement, handle wounds, and more. Christine speaks candidly about these challenges while urging readers to grow a heart that wholly reflects Jesus.
Spread throughout these pages are stories and interviews from church planting wives. Christine Hoover empathetically and pointedly builds from these testimonies to uplift the reader and offer lessons of hope in the midst of a challenging ministry.
