3 Inspiring Books by Elisabeth Elliot

“This job has been given to me to do.

 Therefore, it is a gift.

Therefore, it is a privilege.

Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God.

Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him.

Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way.

In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness.”

~Elisabeth Elliot on Homemaking

Early on when I became a Christian I found some encouraging books by Elisabeth Elliot from my local library. It was at a pivotal time in my walk because I was soaking up all I could about my faith like a sponge and tried to learn all that I could.

It is wonderful to hear from older, godly women who have a steadfast faith and walk with the Lord. Women like these are rare and if you have a chance to sit under their tutelage, it is highly recommended!

"The process of shaping a child...shapes all the mother herself. Reverence for her sacred burden calls her to all that is pure and good, that she may teach primarily by her own humble, daily example."

- Elisabeth Elliot

Our Summer Reading Series will continue with 3 books from this inspiring woman! Why only three? Because this week my mother-in-law is staying with us and that is all I have time for right now but I promise to put an extra link at the bottom so that you can find more of her encouraging books!

1. THE SHAPING OF A CHRISTIAN FAMILY: How My Parents Nurtured My Faith

Elisabeth Elliot is one of the most loved and respected communicators of present-day Christianity. In this repackaged edition of The Shaping of a Christian Family, Elliot tells the story of her childhood to share valuable insights on raising godly children. She talks candidly on parental expectations, emphasizes daily Bible reading and prayer, and shows the benefits of practicing such scriptural principles as trust, discipline, courtesy, and teaching by example.

Complete with eight pages of treasured Elliot family photos, The Shaping of a Christian Family is a wonderful book of ideas and inspiration for new parents, experienced parents, and all who have come to trust Elliot's wisdom.

You can find this book HERE.

“In order to learn what it means to be a woman, we must start with the One who made her.” Working from Scripture, well-known speaker and author Elisabeth Elliot shares her observations and experiences in a number of essays on what it means to be a Christian woman, whether single, married, or widowed.

When life gets too busy, too impersonal, and too much to handle, it's time to turn to God for some peace and quiet. Keep a Quiet Heart is a unique collection of some of Elisabeth's best work from her newsletter. More than 100 short passages offer a bit of relief from everyday life as they point the reader toward the everlasting love and peace of God.

If you would like more popular titles from her you can find them HERE.

Elisabeth Elliot has been my primary mentor. I read Let Me Be a Woman while in my 20s, I think, and it helped shape my thinking as a Christian woman. Keep a Quiet Heart is one of my favorites and probably the one I quote from the most.
