Large Family Meals: $5 Dollar Dinners

I love feeding my large family.

When I was a young girl I remember mom teaching me how to cook an egg or toast a piece of bread. Those were very humble beginnings for the amount of food that I make now! Who would have known that I would have to feed a hungry brood three times a day, 365 days a year?

Sometimes I feel like I am feeding the Duggars! (If you have boys, you know what I am talking about---I have FIVE!).

While I love feeding my large family, I don't always like paying a lot of money to feed them. The cost of groceries are definitely going up, and I am sure you can relate. We are very blessed to have a fabulous farmers market nearby that runs year round and I can find healthy food at very low prices.

But the main reason I am writing this post today is to share with you a little book that I found not too long ago that I thought mothers with big families (and even small) would appreciate. With the economy and layoffs and millions of families without jobs, this book is sure to help someone out there!

It is called: The $5 Dollar Dinner Mom Cookbook: 200 Recipes for Quick, Delicious, and Nourishing Meals That are Easy on the Budget and a Snap to Prepare

She writes:

"Is it really possible to feed a family of four for just $5...for the entire meal? In August of 2008, I challenged myself to do just that. And not only would these meals cost $5, they would be made with the highest quality and most wholesome ingredients that I could find."

Now as I look through the ingredients, you are not going to find foods that are foreign but mostly things that you would find in an average persons pantry. She does make the effort to make recipes healthy by using lots of vegetables in recipes, and this would be for a family of four--two adults and two children or four adults. But even if your family is bigger you can still save money from learning to double or triple the simple recipes she shares and being creative with the ideas she already gives you.

You can find this book at Amazon now on sale HERE.

You can also find her other books for $5 lunches AND $5 breakfasts and more HERE.

Enjoy!
