Do you currently have a ton of toy clutter?
Are you trying to organize it all before Christmas day when more toys and gifts come streaming in?
Every year we make it a tradition to purge all the toys we don't need or want anymore and donate them. Then we organize what we have and can I just say that we are SO grateful that we did. I am very visual and need things to be minimal so this helps out a lot when we have so many things going on during the holidays.
Less toys, less mess, less stress, and more appreciation for what they own!
So if you are feeling overwhelmed and need to get the house together, the playroom, the living room, and the kid's room here are a few tips that might help.
HOW TO PURGE THE TOYS
1. Get some trash bags or bins- you might want a child not to be present or have them help with the process if they are game (and don't have hoarding tendencies. :))
2.Get rid of what is broken- this one is a no-brainer. And don't forget toys or games that are missing pieces!
3. Get rid of what is not used. This especially goes for toys that you feel obligated to keep. Like toys that were gifted to you but a relative but you know the kids will not play with it.
4. Take them to Salvation Army or Goodwill. Try not to leave them in the trunk of your car for 8 months.
5. Rotate them. If you have extra toys that are not used often but still loved, you can easily put some out in the garage and rotate them every month.
Now that you have done that, pat yourself on the back!
The next step is organizing all the toys that are left.
Here are a few organization tools that you might find helpful:
Plastic Totes for closets
These baskets are more neutral and can be put in other rooms in the house.
Clear storage bins so you can see inside!
Cloth bins for shelving units.
LEGO and small toy blanket/mat basket
Efficient Bathroom toy storage
Toy hammock for stuffies.
An ottoman bench that doubles as storage
