A Remorseful Actress

"I act for money, no other reason. Since I made my first picture in 1941, I haven't done a thing worthwhile.

I have never enjoyed making films, and I don't like being a so-called film star. I haven't the emotional make-up for it, nor the love of exhibitionism. I am much too shy. I'd rather find one good man I could love and marry and cook for and make a home for, who would stick around for the rest of my life. I never found him. If I had, I would have traded my career in a minute."

--Ava Gardner, arguably one of the most beautiful and talented women to grace the "silver screen," quoted in the Arizona Republic's article on her death, January 27,1990

I always think something like this is so sad to read, and it really proves that much of what we see in the media can give such a false impression. And people want to copy it in their own lives!
Many, many of the film & TV stars that are so idolized are a product, a commodity, to be sold. Some of these actors are first-rate jerks, some are dull, but I would say that most of them are probably just ordinary folk who have flaws & virtues like the rest of us, & often want to lead normal lives. Obviously Ava Gardner did, & it sounds as though life was very disappointing for her.
