Hold On

When your body is betraying you and your mind is spinning.
Hold on.
When hope seems like it is light years away and strength is disappearing.
Hold on.
When your relationships are crumbling and your feeling all alone.
Hold on.
When life is throwing death at you from every direction and you think that's all there is left.
Hold on.
When you feel your faith is fruitless and that it's all a farce.
Hold on.
When you feel like giving up, don't give in to those feelings.
Hold on.

Keep watching and praying, Keep trusting and believing. Keep singing and offering the sacrifice of praise. Don't let go of what you know is true. Don't let the lies rob you of your joy and don't let the devil deceive you. Hold on, Hold on, Hold on.

Help is on the way!

Hold on to Jesus, He's holding on to you.

If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me and Your right hand will lay hold of me.
- Psalm 139:9-10

Lowly Gentleness

The gentle and quiet spirit described in 1 Peter is something God puts a high value on. It is a spirit that is at peace, is resting in God, is calm.

What causes a woman to lose her gentle spirit?

Many things can interfere with gentleness. But if a woman is not gentle, she may be (or probably is) frazzled, harried, anxious, distracted, bitter, or nagging. A gentle wife is like a tame animal, easily approached, not jumpy or skittish, like an animal in the wild. When her husband comes to her, he is received with affection and finds nourishment and comfort. Her children also can expect to be received with gladness. But if the family has to walk on eggs around Mom, she most likely does not have the gentleness described here. If she is unpredictable, touchy, easily irritated, accusative, or fussy, she does not have a gentle spirit. Lowliness and gentleness go together, so the way to gentleness is to be humble. Jesus is lowly in heart and we find rest for our souls in Him. Husbands and children should be able to find rest for their souls (in a limited way of course) in wife/mom.

And the only way for wives/mothers to be this kind of resource
is to be filled themselves
with the gentleness
of Christ.

Leading An Army To Battle

"You are as much serving God in looking after your own children,
and training them up in God's fear,
and minding the house,
and making your household a church for God,

as you would be if you had been called
to lead an army to battle
for the Lord of hosts."

~Charles Spurgeon

Respecting Sons

“That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth.”
Psalm 144:12

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Sons are different than daughters. God has created our sons to grow up and become leaders and providers. Because of this, it is very important that we treat them in a way that is respectful so that he will have the confidence that he needs to do the many courageous things that God will call him to do.

Respecting Sons
1. Make it a priority to show respect to your husband first.

A. Understand that your son will respect you in direct proportion to your respect for his dad.
B. Mothers must teach their daughters to respect their brothers.

2. Verbalize your respect through praise of his achievements.
A. Admire him for his accomplishments.
B. Respect is connected to real achievements.

3. Give him responsibilities and expect him to fulfill his obligations.
A. Mothers should have high standards for their sons.

4. Common courtesy is a central aspect of respect.
A. Resist the temptation to make fun of your son in public.
B. Don’t share his weaknesses or failures with others.
C. Embarrassing your son in public is always disrespectful.
D. Make every effort to correct your son in private.

Remember this: boys who are braggarts or spend a lot of time showing off in front of others are usually lacking in respect. A boy who is respected will usually have more confidence and be more prone to good behavior.

Responsible Sons
1. We must prepare our sons to go out into the world, face obstacles, work hard, and provide for a household with integrity.

A. Mothers can unwittingly undermine this preparation by mollycoddling, pampering or overprotecting) their sons.
B. Mothers should avoid fighting their son’s battles and sheltering them from the consequences of their actions.
C. Mother should not rush to her son’s defense ~ sons who grow up looking to Mom to fix everything will look for the same thing in a wife :).

2. Sons must learn to take responsibility.
A. Sons must not be allowed to make excuses for their mistakes.
B. Mothers must resist the temptation to “feel sorry” for their sons when they fail.

3. Mothers should avoid being drawn into an adversarial relationship with her son.

A. Mothers must remember that they are in authority over the son until he is grown and should not argue with him as if he were an adult.
B. Mothers should strive to be good listeners and allow Dad to handle the big problems.
C. Mothers must give commands and then expect those commands to be followed without back talk.

4. Sons must not be trained to be home-centered.

A. Mothers must make it their goal to teach their sons that the pattern of homemaking is not the pattern of their future life.
B. Sons are to be raised and trained to leave the home and go out into the world and conquer it!
C. Mothers must remember that they are not the role model for their sons ~ he must be taught to love, admire and appreciate his mother, and learn very early on to follow in the footsteps of his father.

5. Sons must be taught to be self-controlled.

A. Indulging a son will lead him to live an undisciplined life.
B. You want your son to be self-governed, so that when he is older, he will not have to be governed by someone else.
C. Training your son to be self-controlled must begin when he is just a wee little boy (under the age of two years old).
D. Schedule and routine is your best tool of teaching self-control to a young child (this little bit of advice came from me, not the book).

Religious Sons
1. Sons demonstrate their faith differently than daughters do.
2. Look for ways that he is demonstrating his faith in his every day life and activities.
3. Don’t discourage your son for being vocal about his beliefs.

If God has given you the opportunity to mother a son, consider yourself blessed. The little boy in your home now will soon grow up to be a grown man in our society later. Ask God to help you to respect him and raise him in a way that he will grow up to be a responsible man who is able to work hard and lead well. May God bless you and encourage you as you do.

Noble Mothers In Sacred Homes

As we embark upon a new year we must make every opportunity to keep the year's desires fresh in front of us. One of my desires is to have a peaceful, quiet place of rest in my home and especially in my spirit. Mothers today find that such a challenge since the whole world sometimes feels like its beating down our doors. New technology, busy schedules and the like creep into our lives and somehow have a way of stealing away the quietness of our souls. If we examine the deep recesses of our hearts what would we find? When was the last time we even had time to visit the deep recesses of our hearts?

Mothers of the past have had the great honor of keeping the world at bay by creating a magnificently glorious haven within the home. It was a fortress of refuge, a place of solitude, a holy shelter of rest against a perverse world that would be happy to consume her beloved family members. Her spirit lives among us today among mothers possessing gentle and quiet resolve, her determined love making a difference in every life she touches. These noble mothers found great satisfaction creatively weaving homes that embraced, encouraged and rejuvenated their loved ones at the end of the day.

But today's mother unfortunately struggles immensely just understanding who they are and just what motherhood is because through the course of history the lines have been subtly and deceptively blurred:

"Women sigh for fame.
They would be sculptors, and chisel out of the cold stone forms of beauty to fill the world with admiration of their skill.
Or they would be poets, to write songs to thrill a nation and to be sung around the world.

But is any work in marble
so great as her who has an immortal life
laid in her hands
to shape for its destiny?"

-JR Miller

Women today need to be taught the true meaning and behold the vision of what biblical motherhood stands for. There is nothing more breathtakingly beautiful than a mother that truly loves the Lord, passionately embraces her family and home and understands her noble and blessed purpose on earth.

This mother does not allow the world to steal away from her what she has been uniquely made for and she rejects the worlds misleading definition of what motherhood looks like....high power career, colossal home, newest car, perfect children. The infamous misleading notion of being able to have it all.

Never divulging the high price it comes at.

And truth be told, she already has it all.

And the wise mother knows it,
whether she is young or old
rich or poor,

and
her heart
is
happy
and
simply

content.
