I am convinced that Christians desperately need to reevaluate their choices of educating their children. Here are a few reasons why:
This article is a must read--
Five Reasons Not to Send Your Children to Government Schools
I was shocked (but then not really) to see what is going on in some American public schools today:
We Are Going To Rape You -----*do not read this unless you are 18 or older*
Student Suspended For Exposing Classroom Chaos
Teacher Molesting Student
Children Banned from Saying Pledge of Allegiance to Not Offend Muslims
I did a little research on the educators who are in charge of public educating the children and it only got me upset:

Govt. Education and the Deliberate Dumbing Down of America
Is homeschooling a viable option?:

Homeschoolers Score High on ACT
Homeschoolers Rank in 83 Percentile in All Subjects
Homeschool Socialization Resembles Real World/Combating Being a Light In Schools
Homeschoolers Accepted At Ivy League Schools

John Wesley on education:
" Let it be remembered, that I do not speak to the wild, giddy, thoughtless world, but to those that fear God. I ask, then, for what end do you send you children to school? “Why, that they may be fit to live in the world.” In which world do you mean, — this or the next? Perhaps you thought of this world only; and had forgot that there is a world to come; yea, and one that will last for ever! Pray take this into your account, and send them to such masters as will keep it always before their eyes. Otherwise, to send them to school (permit me to speak plainly) is little better than sending them to the devil. At all events, then, send your boys, if you have any concern for their souls, not to any of the large public schools, (for they are nurseries of all manner of wickedness,) but private school, kept by some pious man, who endeavours to instruct a small number of children in religion and learning together."
John Wesley actually thought this back then...
I wonder what he would say today?

And as if there weren't enough links here already, I thought I would add this last one in. While I don't agree with everything in this following article, it certainly left some powerfully interesting food for thought:

You are also welcome to use these posts on homeschooling to link to on your blogs or on Facebook to help others gain a better understanding of Christian homeschooling/education as long as used in a favorable light.)

Wonderful post, thank you so much for all the links! This topic is something I too am passionate about and how could God support an education that eliminates Him? Glad I found your blog - thanks again! :) ~Bev
Great post...Hope you will stop by and visit my new Christmas blog. There is a great giveaway that ends tonight.

I love your blog, I have home schooled my children for 14 years they are grown, and my hearts desire to help other younger moms to love and encourage them. I have also been married for 30 years. Love the Lord, He is my best friend.
Thank you so much for this beautiful blog.

This was amazing. I highly appreciate it. I read so much of it to my Husband. The Five Reasons to not send your children to school was so disheartening to me...as I read through the terrors that these small children are facing. It hurts me deeply....and then I try to step back a moment and understand not all are believers, are followers. But I will do everything in our power to keep our young ones under our wing, subsequently under God's wing, and teach and train them in the way they should go. This is our second year homeschooling, and it is probably the one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, for our children, and ourselves. Thank you June, you inspire me to even higher heights in my Faith, my Parenting and my marriage! God bless you!
Thanks for posting this. I went to public school, and I saw some bad things happen to innocent people! Everyday that I went to school I felt like I had to mentally prepare for it. I would often fake sickness so I would not have to go, and not because I did not want to learn, but because I was afraid!
Great post, thanks for all the links. I just finished up a series on homeschooling today on my blog :) I kind of wish I'd read this before I posted the last entry, since this is very relevant...maybe I'll add it ;) Please do check it out if you get the chance!

I wish I could say I was shocked by those stories, but I was not. Thank you, as this reminded me once again why I homeschool. People think we're strange for wanting to protect our children from these things, that we're strange for taking an active part in their education and that we aren't satisfied with just shipping our children off, we want to be involved...it is our biblical mandate to be involved. People fail to remember that people used to homeschool all the time and that a lonnnnnnnnng time ago it was the only viable option. Look at the character and caliber of those that learned at home. I understand homeschool is not an option for some for whatever reason, but parents that are satisfied with just dropping their kids off at the front door of a school and letting someone else mold their children and take a hands off approach are lazy and will answer to God for it. Your blog is such an encouragment, keep it up.
We have our kids in a public school, however I keep thinking about homeschooling. My husband is happy with the small public school so far. I've been praying that the Lord will speak to my husband's heart about homeschooling, let the Lord place it on his heart and not me.
I'm wondering what kind of curriculum you use, or if you make your own. I figure I can at least start researching it and have information to show my husband once he asks about it. One more thing, I've heard that homeschooling can get pretty expensive- is this true?
Thanks,
Julianne
Dear Mom-2-4,
How wise you are to do your researching now if your husband does allow you to homeschool one day. There is so much available on the internet, it is a homeschooling mom's dream! So please do take your time looking around.
The curriculum I use is mixed. I use some books from Abeka, Saxon Math, Bob Jones, Teaching Textbooks, 'living books' from the library. If you need a list of curriculum suppliers be sure to check out:
www.hslda.com
You could also go to a homeschool conference to look at what books are available as there is alot to choose from these days. Many curriculum suppliers show samples pages of books on their websites so you can get an idea of what you are getting. I would also check to see if there was a support group in your area to connect with some moms who might be able to answer some more of your questions.
As for expense, it is truly what you decide to spend. I know some people almost nothing at all to others who spend thousands. You can get really creative using your library, thrift stores, internet, and books you already have around the house (i.e. Bible). If buying from a curriculum supplier is too expensive, they have companies that sell used books or you can also look on ebay, vegsource or craigslist. I have even found alot of great name brand, expensive curriculum at garage sales! You'd be surprised at the great teaching resources you can find for a steal there.
My library is excellent--they support homeschoolers and have classes and all kinds of books I need. I can view their catalog online and even order books/materials from about 7 other libraries in my area through them--all online and brought straight to my library. All I have to do is pick it up. They also have a huge educational video selection that we take full advantage of. I cannot sing their praises enough!
Hope this helps--I will be praying for your family.
Many blessings...
Oh and one more thing...I have a homeschooling blog that might be helpful to you:

Many blessings...
Dear Mrs. Fuentes,
Thank you so much for your reply, it gives me a great place to start. I really appreciate your help and prayers!

Thanks for links June - I'd like to see some articles come out supporting the situation in the UK; may have a wait a few years yet though!
Even though both my children are finished with homeschool, I took the time to read all the linked articles & watch the videos!!! I linked this post from my blog, hope you don't mind! :D More Christians need to see it!!
I cannot remember how I found your blog, LOL But I'm glad I did!!!
Great post! My husband and I will be giving a workshop soon for people who are interested in homeschooling and have just started.
I have wanted to find the "Home School Hall of Fame" list to share and there it was. One person they do not list is Isabel Briggs-Meyers http://www.capt.org/mbti-assessment/isabel-myers.htm. Very interesting story.
You have a lovely site!
