Summer Planning

Can you believe that summer is only a few weeks away? I think it is harder for me since the weather around here has been cool, hardly feeling much like spring---I am wrapping up the school year and planning excitedly for the summer!

Here are some things we will do this summer:

1. Garden, garden, garden~until flowers and vegetables are growing out of our ears!

2. Teach girls to make bread in the bread maker.

3. Try new recipes and teach the children to make several more different meals.

4. I have the urge for camping---but since I feel this might be a little too soon for our little twins, I think I can settle on picnicking---A LOT--probably at the beach and arboretum and wherever else I can dream of.

5. Sip plenty of lemonade and host many BBQ's.

(Strawberry lemonade from Theres No Place Like Home)

6. We will be crafty and make clothes and accessories for dolls that live in our home.

7. Paint and decorate our homeschool room so it will be ready for next year.

8. Attack the clutter monster in my garage since the weather will be nice enough.

9. Plan and purchase for next school year. I love browsing through homeschool catalogs on the deck watching the children play.

10. Lots of fun, adventure, and exciting get-aways.

11. Plenty of good old-fashioned "garage-sailing"!

This is not exhaustive, but only a glance at what we will do. I also like to do a little school with the children to keep them on their toes--we will be focusing on some character lessons I have planned for them. In the summer, I like to plan in advance some books I would like the girls to read to encourage them and give them a vision for Biblical girlhood and womanhood since they have more time in the summer to read. They are such bookworms and love to devour just about anything I put in front of them. Janai let me know she wanted to go through the book 'Beautiful Girlhood' again this summer--one that had challenged her last year.

We will also pick up some skills this summer. Janai would like spend more time on violin and Spanish and Naomi the recorder, lap harp and typing.

I hope you are as excited as I am. Remember, that us Moms are memory makers for our families. What we plan for them will be some of their best childhood memories-drawing them closer to us and home. Outings and events can be great, but some of our greatest memories are just hanging around the house spending time and loving one another and just truly talking to each other. Time we sacrificially devote to one-on-one time is priceless---so be sure to include this in your summer plans!

Whatever you plan to do, take advantage of this precious time with your family and have a great summer!

  1. Loved hearing about your summer plans! Thanks for sharing with us. We have several stressful-life changing events coming up this summer--but your post has challenged me to keep memory-making a priority in spite of it all!

  3. Very inspiring post and I really enjoyed hearing what you've got planned for this summer.

Love the quote "us Moms are memory makers for our families" as it's so true :o)

    Blessings,

  5. Dear Mrs. Fuentes,
I am a regular visitor of your site and this is the first time i've come out of the shadows!! I love the summer plans. They make me feel both challenged and inspired at once. You know how in the beginning of summer the calendar starts to rapidly fill up and it starts to feel like it's over before it's even started? This post has made me determine to put the brakes on and be very deliberate about how we will spend our days!
I have sent a link to your blog to so many of my friends and tell them that you are one of mentors! Hope that's okay :-)
One more thing that i have been wanting to ask but don't know where else to ask it - what happened to the music? it was always so nice and for some reason it is gone. Is it my computer?

thank you for this lovely place on the internet.

  6. I think making a list of summer plans is a great idea. I'll plan to work on that myself over this weekend. We have a family vacation coming up so I'll keep in mind that these are forever memories - thanks for a blessed reminder :) I'll put my list in my HMB as a frequent reminder and maybe I'll blog on it too :)

Have a precious summer w/ your family.

  7. I'm interesting in the lists of books that you have your daughters read? There are too few "character building" books out there. I'm always looking for ideas.

  9. Thank you for the reminder that we shouldn't let the days of summer slip away wasted. Well, not completely anyway!

We'll be still schooling throughout the summer as a move set us back a little bit, but I definitely need to squeeze in some fun and relaxation for us.

  10. I'm so happy I found your blog, and so inspired. I'm definitely going to have to figure out how to enhance my blog. I visited your site because of the name...I recently started a Bible study using this verse, found the logo at FaithClipArt.com. But we use just the "A Wise Woman Builds" part of the verse. Right now we are working on building up the Temple were God lives, our body. I work for B&H Publishing Group and often post reviews from new releases on my blog and other Christian fiction that I'm reading. Please visit.

  11. Four Little Penguins,

Some of the books I have had them read last year were:

    So Much More-Ana Sofia Botkin
The Teenage Years of Christ-(this book is lent out from our library so I don't remember the author)
    Homemaking-Jr Miller
    Christian Character-by Gary Maldanar
    Raising Maidens of Virtue-Stacy McDonald

Some we just read part of, some they read entirely.

Hope that helps...perhaps later I will post more about what we will read this year.

    Man blessings...
