Pride

My name is Pride. I am a cheater.

I cheat you of your God-given destiny...because you demand your own way.

I cheat you of contentment...because you "deserve better than this."

I cheat you of knowledge...because you already know it all.

I cheat you of healing...because you're too full of me to forgive.

I cheat you of holiness...because you refuse to admit when you're wrong.

I cheat you of vision...because you'd rather look in the mirror than out a window.

I cheat you of genuine friendship...because nobody's going to know the real you.

I cheat you of love...because real romance demands sacrifice.

I cheat you of greatness in heaven...because you refuse to wash another's feet on earth.

I cheat you of God's glory...because I convince you to seek your own.

My name is Pride. I am a cheater. You like me because you think I'm always looking out for you.

Untrue.

God has so much for you, I admit.
But don't worry...

If you stick with me,

you'll never know.

  2. This was right-on! (& the Harrison Fisher pic was a perfect choice!)...Oh, pride! That little devil! How easily we are deceived if we don't keep our eyes on Jesus!

  5. WOW!! That is one of the most thought-provoking, insightful things I've ever read. I am ashamed to admit it, but pride has been a struggle for me. That post really puts things in perspective.

  9. My comment really has nothing to do with your blog today, even though it is very good. I have a question that I need help with. I will use an example, but really that is all it is, an example. I am helping with a Simulcast Focus on Marriage. I have had several women, tell me that they will talk it over with their husbands and leave it up to him to decide, if they will go or not. My concern is that, the women seem to have no voice in their house. It is all up to the husband. On one hand I agree, but on the other, well I just don’t. For years, in my previous marriage, I did not go to church, because my husband did not want to. I feel I should have gone anyway, without him. At what point do you say, I have to do this with or without you. Where do you tell women that they do have to sometimes, step out on their own, for Christ? Or do you not, and just hope they can overcome their own struggles on their own? I hope this makes sense…

  11. Dear Jenny,

I think that many women do share their opinions with their husbands and in the end allow their husbands the final word. This is great because we want to ask them and be on the same page.

I don't believe it is our place tell women not to listen to their husbands, because this can be confusing and conflict with Scripture.

On the other hand, I do believe we should not listen to the our husbands to the point of disobeying God's Word. For example, if he wanted us to steal something, then we should not do it because God's Word is the final authority.

'At what point do you say, I have to do this with or without you. Where do you tell women that they do have to sometimes, step out on their own, for Christ?' ---As for this statement, you would have to define the situation more clearly. If you are talking about the simulcast, well then I would have to say that they don't need to go this event without their husbands if he wouldn't want them to. There are plenty of other ways to learn about marriage today without defying his wishes. (Bible, godly books, godly counseling/mentoring, etc.)

A great biblical indepth study of this topic can be found from Martha Peace, in her book The Excellent Wife.

    I hope this helps...

  13. You have perfectly described a trait I battle daily to bring under submission. Seeing it in black and white and worded so wisely has struck a chord in my heart. This will be printed and kept near as a reminder of the enemy it is. Thank you for sharing this.

  17. I just found your blog today and I must admit that I am deeply touched, convicted and warmed by what I read! Sometimes as submissive wives we feel so beaten by the world, as if what we are doing is wrong!! It is so refreshing to me and encouraging to know that there are women out there of a like minded heart.
    Blessings...

  19. So True! Pride cometh before destruction and a hauty spirit before a fall. I have fallen many times,...but long to be meek and humble! I love your blog. I will be reading all of these wonderful topics. Thanks!

  20. A lot of people say insecurity is really a manifestation of pride, but I don't think that is true at all. I think people really do need to have some belief in their God-give abilities to make it in this world. Just my opinion from my own experience.
