Distorted Perception of Beauty

I found this video and thought this would make us think twice when we see billboards or models in magazines.

(Don't forget to turn off the music in the left sidebar!)

This was the message from the person who posted this video on

"Real beauty is from the inside! No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted! Maybe we should look to each other like God does... look to the heart instead to the outside appearance... Many women (and men) look to members of the opposite sex with this 'world-view'. Be renewed and stop looking like that! Don't value yourself at how many guys are gazing at you!! Stop wanted being loved by the world, and start wanted being loved by God!"

Any thoughts, ladies?

  1. Several years ago while teaching a class of college girls, I did some research on models, etc for a lesson about beauty. I was amazed to find out how pictures are computerized, touched up, etc. Add to this how many men in the Christian community are feasting on these types of images and you have a major problem. Women cannot measure up to "fake" models of beauty, and husbands are dissatisfied with the "average" wives they have at home. It is truly a sad thing in our culture that is permeating our Christian communities as well. It is so important to pray for our husbands and sons and to model true beauty in front of them. Our daughters as well must be trained in what the Word says about the beauty that God's Word encourages. We also need to analyze what kind of Christian artists/superstars we are putting in front of our girls as role models--I'm not impressed with what I see most of the time. How important for women to grasp true inner beauty which is found in the hidden place of the heart. However, can we not go to the other extreme and live in sweats, uncaring for the way we present ourselves? This is not beauty, either. If we as Christian women are going to combat this, we must present ourselves in a way that is feminine, beautiful, and gentle. We can be truly beautiful inside and out, but it will be a beauty that does not fade away that will captivate the hearts of our husbands and sons and help them spot the counterfeit when it is splashed in front of them on billboards/magazine displays, etc.
I love the verse in Proverbs that states a beautiful woman without discretion is like a pig with a ring in it's nose!

  2. Dear Rhonda,

'...but it will be a beauty that does not fade away that will captivate the hearts of our husbands and sons and help them spot the counterfeit when it is splashed in front on them on billboards/magazines displays, etc.'

That really says it all doesn't it?

I think that we also need to pray for them (models, etc)as well to not be deceived.

I agree we do need to analyze who we put before our girls as models. That sounds like the makings of a future post!

Always enjoy and value your input. Thanks for sharing!

    Many blessings...

  3. June,
I like the reminder to pray for these women--Herb has reminded us time and time again that each of these women is some man's daughter. He tries to make it a habit to pray for women that are presented on billboards, magazines, etc.

  4. I have shown this video to many people and we have shared it with our youth group at church. (I also wrote a post about it, I think.)It makes me want to be very viligant to limit TV and not let any magazines in our house! But there is teaching that must go on as well, b/c our daughters will be faced with images like this in their lives. They have to know how to react to these.

  5. That was amazing. I'd like to share it on my blog; thanks!

  6. You know why women OBSESS over their beauty nowadays? It's because they know, in their heart of hearts, that they have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE to offer a man-end of story! Let's see: they can't cook, nor are willing to learn; they can't clean, nor are willing to learn; shoot, women today can't even be kind, decent, supportive COMPANIONS anymore; if they offered that, it would at least be something! Alas, they don't. Other than beauty and sex, women have nothing to offer men. Therefore, it's quite NATURAL that they'd obsess over their beauty. Thank you.
